This series is inspired by the experiences of brave women, mine as well as many others like me. The exploration of the chiaroscuro technique which gradually reveals the figures is done to buttress the mood of the paintings. These are the experiences of women masked under the shadow of fear, uncertainty and eventually of exhaustion and conspiracy. The role of the light is to unravel what’s hidden, as the popular Yoruba saying “no matter how long a lie endures, the truth will eventually surface” These are the stories of the brave women who have found their voices by stepping out of the cloak of fear and into the light.

Oil on Canvas (palette knife)
