TAIWO OWOYEMI

BIOGRAPHY

Taiwo Owoyemi is a multidisciplinary visual artist, Born in the mid 80’s, and academically trained as an artist at the Obafemi Awolowo University, and University of Benin in the year 2006 B.ED and 2015 MFA, respectively.

He observed the phenomenon of the large digestive system of his society that constantly reject used materials. He leaned over it and investigate into various options of these perceived junks as alternative material in creating his art and discovered the splendor in discarded aluminum soda cans which comes in different colours and shades. With his constant romance with this material, he attained a new formal technique, “Repousee Assemblage Sculpture” (RAS), possibilities and audacity of artistic posturing. Apart from his media exploration, his works remains the reflection of his conscious concern on human choices in relation to psychological and social affairs.

Taiwo had three solo exhibitions to his credit, the most recent was titled “One Man’s Junk”, held at the Didi Museum, Lagos, Nigeria in May 2021. Taiwo had featured in several workshops and group exhibition.
