BIOGRAPHY
Obafemi Philip was born in Kogi State, Nigeria on 27th March, 1974. He is from Lokoja local government area in Kogi State, Nigeria. He graduated from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, specializing in Sculpture.
As a contemporary Nigerian artist, he is a Painter and a sculptor. He developed a style called life in two phases which means the life that we live is vertical and horizontal. Vertical in the sense that, we need relationship with God first and then horizontal which means we need relationship with our audience, the collectors, galleries etc.
Obafemi Philip has exhibited in Nigeria and Abroad. An award winner three times during his school days in Yaba College of Technology. Obafemi, “Heat iron” as he is called, is a skillful iron heater converting metal to beautiful art piece. His works are represented in other medium most especially ebony wood.
Philip Obafemi as a painter is signed by Vitavie art gallery in Toronto, Canada.
He has done alot of commission works, - Portrait of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Prof. Chinua Achebe, Prof. Wole Soyinka, all in Freedom Park, Marina, Lagos, portrait of Ayinla Omowura, Rev. Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti And Mrs Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti, Ogun State to mention but a few.
Obafemi Philip is a full time studio artist based in Lagos, Nigeria and he is a member of Universal Studios of art, USA, National Theater Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria.
